You have probably heard the expression, "A picture is worth 1000 words."  Poetry is a method where we use a few "word pictures" to tell a larger story.  Each month we will feature a theme and will print as many of your poems  and pictures as we can.  This month check out our mischievous poems and art.  Scroll to the bottom of the page to get instructions for next month.  You can send your poetry to us by going to the Letters to the Editor page and writing to "Dear Kate".  To send pictures email them to us by February 18th at passion2build@comcast.net.   It's a playground - have fun with words and pictures!

There once were some kids from KidzPost
Who really did like to eat toast.
But if their toast was not buttered
They spat and they sputtered
And their cries could be heard coast to coast.

A monkey stares at a thing
It has strings
He plucks it, sound comes
He licks it, tasteless
He smells it, wood and wire
     He picks it up
     And starts playing.

Splattered in mud,
With a pig,
     Him like.

and choose the limerick option to get instructions and practice.   Also look at the limerick in this issue -- the “No Butter” poem by Rosa.  Then let the inspiration flow!  We will publish as many limericks as we can in our next issue.
Are you feeling artistic?  Read the poem below and draw a picture that describes the poem.
Tip-Toe Tip-Toe
Sneaking into brother’s room.
Spiders on the bed…
Oatmeal in the closet…
Thump. Thump.  Thump.
Run away with creepy grin!

Study the picture to the left and write a limerick to describe what is happening.  Or write a limerick about anything you like.  Can’t quite remember exactly how to write a limerick?  We thought as much!  Click on this website:
